One Year Ago Today: Hurricane Dolly Strikes South Padre Island

On this day one year ago Hurricane Dolly hit South Padre Island causing widespread damage and flooding. Here in Corpus Christi, where I reside, we had tropical storm winds and heavy rain but nothing extreme.
Now one year later we could use some of that rain as the long drought continues here with record setting heat.

Please check out the banner on the bottom of the page. This worthwhile group is
seeking counselors and other positions for their summer programs. Here is a link for

The Fresh Air Fund is also in need of hosts for this summer. Host families are
volunteers who open their hearts and home to a child from the city to give a fresh air experience that disadvantaged children never forget. Below is a link which explains everything.

Today In Port Aransas

It has been very hot so far this summer. Of course it is expected to be hot but it has been hotter than...well, normal. We have had quite a few days over 100 here and weeks of over 95 degree days and our drought has continued with only a few rain showers in the area recently, that's it! No mas! Today's temp was 102 at the airport with a heat index of 112! Thank goodness it is quite a bit cooler near the water.
It seems to me that a temperature over 100 used to be a rarity here in Corpus Christi.
