Beach Permits; Public Ripped Off By The Government!

I love to go to the beach. I don't go as much as I used to and there are some local beaches I haven't set foot on in years. One of the main reasons are the exorbitant beach permit fees! This all started locally back in the early 90's when Nueces County instituted their fee. At that time there was no cost for any area beach, including the Padre Island National Seashore. My how that has changed! Now every governmental entity sticks its hand in your pocket if you want to enjoy the public beach!
The proponents of the fees claim the money is needed to "maintain" the beach. Waht a bunch of bull that is! We pay taxes to maintain these beaches and use fees are double taxation!
And take a look at how well they maintain the beaches. They rarely pick up the trash left by thoughtless beach goers or, the great majority, that washes up from offshore.
They scrape the beach to pick up the annual sargaussum seaweed invasion thus doing trmendous damge to the beach and speeding up erosion. During large events such as Sea Sculptures Nueces County bulldozes the sand into lanes, furthering the erosion of the beach.
And construction is permitted in the sand dunes and it is a continuous battle to prevent comnstruction right on the beach!
It is doubtful the monies raised by these permits goes towards the stated purpose. More Likely the cash is used to pad the "general" fund.
Be a son of the beach! Stand up for continued public ownership and control of our beaches!
